4º British: Weekly Work (Industrial Revolution)

Here you have the new Weekly Work about the Industrial revolution. The question number 3 is about cinema, so before starting you should watch the following videos of Lumière Brothers on Youtube (less than a minute each one):

Enjoy the movies... :-)

1º British: Egypt online research

3º British: Population and settlement

Here you have the links for the following units and their activities:

As they are important issues, you can get more information by watching this video about a sustainable settlement: Curitibia (Brasil). It lasts only 6 minutes.

In addittion, you can do a review of urban geography before the exam. So I recommend visiting the following links:

  1. Librosvivos, published by SM. Remember that in the bottom part of the page are more links with activities ("See what you know", "To know more", "Supplementary Material", etc..). (In Spanish)

  1. CATEDU. Also with several sections (planes, history, current growth ...) and activities. (In Spanish)

British: Book review 2012-2013

As the curriculum for the subjetc is complex and really long, some of the lessons will be completed by the students. To begin with, students must read two books and hand-writting a personal review. This work is compulsory and must be returned in the specified date.

Students can read them in English or Spanish, it doesn’t matter, but of course the review must be written in English. This review, hand-written on one side of the sheet, must have the following sections:
  • Bibliographic card (title, author, publisher...)
  • Abstract (3-4 pages)
  • Personal opinion about the book (1 page)

The two reading books for this year are:

1º ESO - British
  • La chica del tiempo, by Eva Mª Piquer (Second term)
  • Roman Mysteries (vol.1: The thieves of Ostia), by Caroline Lawrence (Translation into Spanish: Misterios Romanos 1: Ladrones en el foro). (Third term)

2º ESO
  • La tierra de las papas, by Paloma Bordons (Second term)
  • El oro de los sueños, by José Mª Merino (Third term)

4º ESO - British
  • Address Unknown (Paradero desconocido), by Kressmann Taylor (First term)
  • Animal Farm (Rebelión en la granja), by George Orwell (Second term)

Enjoy the reading!

3º British: Global Warming

Some people believe that human activities in industrialised countries are changing the world’s climate and the natural greenhouse effect is being altered.

But global warning is a controversial issue. Some people argue that it is not happening because throughout History there have been natural cycles of warming (eg. the Medieval Warm Period) and cooling on Earth (eg. the Little Ice Age between the 11th and 15th centuries).

What do you think about it?

Watch this video from National Geographic and do a small research on the web. Them, answer the following questions as complete as possible:

-         Describe 3 possible impacts of global warming and how people can try to slow down its impact.
-         Why are people uncertain about the causes of global warming?
-         Are you in favour or against the theory of Global Warming? Explain it and give reasons.

It is a compulsory activity and, this time, you will receive a MARK for it. When you finish it, sent the file to The deadline for this activity is Tuesday 26 November
